Actor-politician Vijay recently watched Phoenix, the debut film of Surya Sethupathi, son of actor Vijay Sethupathi. Directed by action choreographer-turned-filmmaker Anl Arasu, the film also stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and follows the story of a young wrestler fighting against power-hungry forces. Vijay, visibly impressed, hugged Surya after the screening and offered high praise. Arasu shared a picture of himself, Surya, and Vijay on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Bloody sweet! That’s the vibe after Thalapathy Vijay sir watched Phoenix and shared his MERSAL MAXX words! The Phoenix is flying on FIRE now!”

Surya also posted the same photo, expressing his gratitude to Vijay. “Thank you Vijay sir. The last hug, the kind words, the warmth it meant everything. I’ve always looked up to you, and to feel your support on this journey is something I’ll never forget,” he wrote. The film features a strong ensemble including Abhinakshathra, J Vignesh, Sampath Raj, and Devadarshini in key roles.
On the work front, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in Ace and will next appear in Pandiraj’s Thalaivan Thalaivii, releasing on July 25, and Mysskin’s Train, which is in post-production. Vijay, who was last seen in The GOAT, is now gearing up for Jana Nayagan, a political drama directed by H Vinoth, set to release during Pongal 2026. The film marks his final project before fully entering politics, with plans to contest the Tamil Nadu elections through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
