The Maddock Horror Comedy Cinematic Universe has become a major hit, especially after the blockbuster success of Stree 2 (2024), which earned over ₹500 crores at the box office. Now, all eyes are on the next film in the franchise, Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya fame, the film also features Varun Dhawan reprising his role as Bhediya. According to reports, Varun has a much larger role this time, with six days of shooting indicating his strong presence in the story.

In Thama, Ayushmann plays a vampire, setting the stage for an epic clash with Varun’s werewolf character. The vampire vs. werewolf rivalry is a classic trope, and producer Dinesh Vijan is said to have gone all out with the scale and VFX of their action scenes. Shot between March and April this year, the showdown promises to be a visual spectacle. The film is expected to not only thrill audiences but also lay the groundwork for Bhediya 2, another installment in the growing horror-comedy universe.

Thama is scheduled for release during Diwali 2025 and marks Ayushmann Khurrana’s first film after more than two years, his last being Dream Girl 2 in August 2023. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan will appear in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Janhvi Kapoor before Thama hits screens. Other upcoming titles in the Maddock universe, like Shakti Shalini and Chamunda, are expected to get new release dates soon due to delays.
