US-Israel Strike Iran, Strait of Hormuz Closed
The US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran, targeting key military and strategic sites. According to Israeli officials, their forces dismantled the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster. Meanwhile, US leaders described the mission as clear and decisive. President Donald Trump stated that the air campaign could continue for four to five weeks. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards shut the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, global oil markets reacted sharply, fearing supply disruptions. At the same time, military deployments increased across the Gulf region, signaling that neither side plans to retreat.
Iran Vows Retaliation After Khamenei’s Death
Iran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in Israeli strikes last week. Soon after, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks across the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. Furthermore, Iranian leaders accused Washington of pushing West Asia toward full-scale war. Security chief Ali Larijani directly criticized Trump and blamed US policies for the escalation. However, Iran rejected claims that the operation seeks regime change. Instead, officials framed the conflict as a defense of national sovereignty. Consequently, tensions have intensified across the region.

Hezbollah and Houthis Expand the Conflict
The violence has now spread beyond Iran and Israel. For instance, Lebanon-based Hezbollah fired rockets and drones at Israeli military sites near Haifa. Immediately afterward, Israel carried out retaliatory airstrikes on Beirut. As a result, the November 2024 ceasefire effectively collapsed. Similarly, the Houthis in Yemen pledged to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes. The group had earlier targeted US and Israeli-linked vessels during the Gaza conflict. Therefore, renewed threats now endanger maritime trade and regional stability.
Death Toll Rises Across West Asia
Casualties continue to climb across West Asia. According to Iranian state media, at least 555 people have died and more than 700 have suffered injuries. Notably, strikes in Minab killed over 100 people, including students at a girls’ school. Meanwhile, the US military confirmed that three American service members died and five sustained serious injuries. Lebanon reported 31 deaths in the south. The UAE, Israel, Iraq, and Kuwait also confirmed fatalities. Given the ongoing airstrikes and missile attacks, analysts warn that the death toll could rise further. Ultimately, the region now stands dangerously close to a prolonged and devastating war.
