UK Invites India for Strait of Hormuz Talks, FS Misri Attending Meet: MEA

India will join an important international meeting called by the United Kingdom to discuss the growing Strait of Hormuz crisis, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. The talks come as tensions rise in West Asia and maritime security risks increase. The MEA confirmed that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will attend the discussions later this evening.

MEA Confirms UK Invited India for Hormuz Discussions

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the UK has invited several countries, including India, for the talks. He confirmed that India will participate in the virtual meeting. Jaiswal said the discussions will focus on the blockade and safe movement of ships. India plans to highlight concerns linked to energy security and shipping safety.

Over 40 Nations Invited, US Stays Away

Reports suggest the UK has invited over 40 countries for the talks. However, the United States will not join the meeting. US President Donald Trump earlier said other nations must take responsibility for protecting the route. The final list of participating countries will become clearer after the meeting ends.

India in Touch With Iran to Ensure Safe Transit

India has continued talks with Iran and other regional stakeholders to protect Indian shipping routes. Randhir Jaiswal said India wants safe and uninterrupted transit for its vessels. He added that six Indian ships have already crossed the Strait safely in recent days. India will keep engaging all relevant parties to secure future passage for ships carrying LPG, LNG, and other products.
