Trump Repeats Claim of ‘Stopping’ India-Pak War.

Share

US President Donald Trump once again claimed that he played a decisive role in stopping military tensions between India and Pakistan during a standoff in May 2025. Speaking at his “Board of Peace” event, Trump said he pressured both sides to step back by threatening economic consequences. Indian officials continue to reject any claim of foreign mediation.

Trump Claims 11 Jets Fell During Standoff

During his speech, Trump alleged that 11 fighter jets were lost during the confrontation. He described the aircraft as “very expensive” and said the losses forced both sides to reconsider escalation. Trump has changed this figure several times over the past year, previously mentioning five, seven, eight, and ten jets. Indian authorities have firmly denied all such claims and insist that no such losses occurred.

Trade Deals and Tariff Threats Highlighted

Trump said he warned India and Pakistan that continued fighting would derail trade negotiations. He claimed he threatened to impose tariffs as high as 200 percent if the conflict escalated. According to Trump, this warning pushed both sides toward restraint. Indian officials, however, maintain that diplomatic and military decisions followed internal assessments, not external pressure.

India Rejects Mediation Narrative

New Delhi has consistently rejected any suggestion of third-party involvement in its security decisions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly stated that India handles bilateral issues directly with Pakistan. During the same event, Trump claimed he had spoken to Modi and suggested the Indian leader was following the proceedings.

Trump’s repeated remarks have reignited debate around diplomatic influence and political storytelling. India, however, continues to assert strategic independence and dismisses claims that challenge its official position.
