Shah Rukh Khan’s Bungalow Mannat Under Investigation for Environmental Violation.

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic residence, Mannat, has come under regulatory scrutiny following allegations that ongoing renovation work may be violating coastal and heritage-related permissions. According to a report by ETimes, a team from the forest department visited the site after receiving a complaint about possible irregularities. A forest official confirmed the inspection and noted that a detailed report will soon be submitted based on their findings. Officials from the BMC’s H-West ward and building proposal departments accompanied the team but clarified their role was limited and conducted only at the request of the forest department.

During the inspection, Mannat’s staff assured the authorities that all relevant documents and approvals for the renovation work had been obtained and would be shared for review. Shah Rukh Khan’s manager also addressed the controversy, stating that there are no complaints against the property and that all construction is proceeding in accordance with existing regulations. Despite this, the inspection has triggered public attention, especially as it followed closely on the heels of remarks made by former IPS officer and lawyer Y P Singh.

Singh raised concerns about the legality and historical modifications of the property, claiming that Mannat originally included a heritage structure known as Villa Vienna. He alleged that in 2005, a seven-storey extension was added behind the heritage bungalow with BMC’s approval for 12 small flats—later merged into a single luxury residence. As the authorities now assess these allegations, the incident has reignited debates surrounding heritage conservation, urban development norms, and the regulation of celebrity-owned properties along Mumbai’s sensitive coastal zones.
