A West Indies men’s team cricketer has been accused of sexual harassment and assault in Guyana, with allegations involving multiple women. According to a report by SportsMax TV, as many as eleven victims, including a teenager, have come forward with accusations ranging from unwanted advances to rape. The controversy deepened with claims of an alleged cover-up to protect the player. Local newspaper Kaieteur News first reported the case under the headline ‘Monster in Maroon’, bringing serious attention to the matter.

Inquiries made to Cricket West Indies (CWI) by SportsMax regarding their awareness and response to the accusations were met with limited information. CWI President Kishore Shallow stated that the board was unaware of the circumstances and thus unable to comment at this stage. The issue reportedly traces back two years, during which time a complaint was filed, and recommendations were allegedly made by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to press charges. However, according to the victim’s lawyer, Nigel Hughes, the case seemingly stalled, coinciding with the West Indies’ historic Test win in Australia.
Hughes, representing the family of one of the alleged victims, expressed concern over the lack of progress and limited transparency. “We were initially contacted about two years ago, and with the recent developments, we’ve made inquiries again, but have not received any significant updates,” he told SportsMax. The allegations now threaten to cast a shadow over the ongoing West Indies vs. Australia Test series, the first of which is currently being played in Barbados. The investigation is ongoing, and the cricketing community is watching closely for further developments.
