Rising Water Levels in Ganga and Yamuna Raise Flood Concerns in Prayagraj.

The water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj rose rapidly on Friday, raising concerns of potential flooding in low-lying areas. In response, the local administration issued an alert, warning residents living near the ghats and riverbanks about the risk of submergence. Authorities have advised people in flood-prone zones to remain vigilant and be prepared for evacuation if necessary.

District Magistrate Ravindra Mandar informed ANI that comprehensive preparations are in place to handle any emergency. “A detailed review has been conducted. Eighty-eight flood chowkis have been established, and 47 villages have been identified as sensitive,” he said. The administration has deployed personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to affected areas and is conducting ongoing training to ensure readiness.

The early arrival of the monsoon, eight days ahead of schedule, has brought moderate to heavy rainfall across many regions. In Rishikesh, the Ganga’s water level is rising but remains just below the warning mark. Teams from the SDRF and local police have urged residents to stay in safe locations amid the continuous rain, prioritizing safety as the situation develops.
