RCB Confirm Five IPL 2026 Home Matches at Chinnaswamy
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have confirmed that they will play five of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 home matches at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The announcement comes after months of discussions with state authorities and cricket officials. Earlier, the Karnataka government had cleared the venue to host IPL and international matches. However, the final decision rested with the franchise. With this move, RCB return to their traditional fortress in Bengaluru for the majority of their home fixtures.
Return After Last Year’s Tragedy
Notably, Chinnaswamy had not hosted any competitive cricket since last year’s tragic stampede outside the stadium during RCB’s title celebrations. Eleven people lost their lives in the incident, casting a shadow over the historic venue. Since then, authorities have worked to strengthen infrastructure and improve safety measures. As a result, RCB expressed confidence in returning home. The franchise thanked the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and the Karnataka Police for their support in ensuring the venue meets all safety standards.

Two Matches in Raipur as Per Commitment
While Bengaluru will host five matches, the remaining two home games will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. The franchise had made a prior commitment to stage games there. RCB CEO Rajesh Menon said the Chinnaswamy Stadium represents more than just a ground. He described it as the place where the team’s identity truly comes alive. According to him, fans in Bengaluru provide unmatched energy and unwavering support, which inspires the players in every phase of the game.
Chinnaswamy Set to Host IPL 2026 Opener
Importantly, the Chinnaswamy Stadium is now set to host the IPL 2026 opener on March 28. As defending champions, RCB will feature in the curtain-raiser of the 19th season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to confirm the full schedule soon. Last season, RCB ended their long wait for the IPL trophy under Rajat Patidar’s leadership by defeating Punjab Kings in the final. Now, with their home base restored, the franchise aims to build on that historic triumph in front of their passionate supporters.
