During a heated session in Parliament on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge launched sharp attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding clarity on former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating peace between India and Pakistan. Gandhi questioned why Modi was staying silent on the issue and challenged him to directly address Trump’s statements. He asked, “If Trump is lying about brokering the ceasefire, say it. Say it in Parliament,” emphasizing that the Prime Minister should show political courage if he believes Trump’s claims are false.

Gandhi also criticized the government’s approach to Operation Sindoor, highlighting the need for strong political will and operational freedom when dealing with sensitive military matters. He drew a historical parallel, recalling how Indira Gandhi gave her generals full freedom during the 1971 war, contrasting it with the current situation, and stressed that true political resolve is essential for successful military action.
Kharge echoed Gandhi’s concerns in the Rajya Sabha, questioning why India remained silent despite Trump’s repeated claims about brokering the ceasefire. He pointed out that Trump had admitted 29 times to playing a role in the peace process and wondered why India was not accepting or clarifying its position on these statements. Both leaders’s comments reflected growing frustration over the government’s handling of the issue and its silence on Trump’s claims.
