Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on Friday, August 22, to inaugurate several important projects, including new sections of the Kolkata Metro. Around 4:15 pm, he will flag off metro services on the newly built routes and also take a ride from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Bimanbandar before returning. Along with this, the Prime Minister will also travel to Bihar the same day to launch various developmental projects and lay foundation stones for upcoming works.

The newly constructed metro network in Kolkata covers a stretch of 13.61 km. It includes three major routes — Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Sealdah to Esplanade, and Beleghata to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. To mark the inauguration, PM Modi will personally flag off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar service from Jessore Road. The Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay services will be launched simultaneously through video conferencing.
In addition to these metro services, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a newly built subway at Howrah Metro Station. These projects are expected to improve connectivity across Kolkata and reduce traffic pressure on roads, offering commuters a faster and more convenient travel option.
