Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, renowned for his role as the public prosecutor in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu, as confirmed by a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Just hours before the official announcement, Nikam received a phone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally informed him of the nomination. The Prime Minister humorously asked whether he should speak in Hindi or Marathi, and eventually chose Marathi, reflecting a warm and respectful interaction between the two.

Nikam shared with ANI that during the call, PM Modi conveyed the President’s decision to entrust him with this responsibility. He expressed his immediate acceptance of the nomination, underscoring the significance of the moment. This nomination is part of a group of four distinguished individuals appointed to the Rajya Sabha, including former diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla, historian Meenakshi Jain, and teacher-politician C. Sadanandan Master.

This development highlights the recognition of Nikam’s contributions to the country, particularly in the legal domain, as he prepares to take on his new role in the upper house of Parliament.
