Thackeray are set to reunite after 20 years for the ‘Awaj Marathicha’ (voice of Marathi) victory rally in Mumbai’s Worli. The rally was announced following the Maharashtra government’s decision to roll back the mandatory implementation of Hindi as the third language in primary schools. Both leaders have arrived at the NSCI Dome, where the event is about to begin, signaling a rare display of unity between the two cousins who have often been political rivals.

Thousands of supporters gathered outside the venue, many wearing masks of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray and holding placards proclaiming “Aahmchi odakh Marathi” (our identity is Marathi). While the auditorium can accommodate 8,000 people, a much larger crowd is expected, with LED screens set up to ensure everyone can witness the rally. Party members from both Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS chanted slogans and displayed banners, creating a festive atmosphere ahead of the event.

Leaders from both parties described the rally as a historic moment and a potential step towards a renewed alliance ahead of upcoming local body elections. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut called it a festival for Maharashtra, highlighting the significance of the two Thackeray leaders sharing a stage after two decades. Meanwhile, senior leaders from both parties have been tasked with managing the planning and arrangements to ensure the rally’s success.
