Modi Calls for ‘Just and Durable’ Peace in Knesset Speech
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a 32-minute address at the Knesset in Jerusalem. During the speech, he called for a “just and durable” peace in West Asia. At the same time, he reaffirmed that India stands firmly with Israel.
Moreover, Modi strongly condemned terrorism. He said no cause can justify the killing of civilians. According to him, terrorism anywhere threatens peace everywhere. In this context, he recalled the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He also expressed solidarity with victims of the October 7 Hamas assault. Therefore, he reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy without double standards.
India Backs Gaza Peace Initiative
Meanwhile, Modi voiced firm support for the Gaza Peace Initiative endorsed by the UN Security Council. He said India backs every effort that promotes regional stability. Furthermore, he stressed that dialogue remains the only path to lasting peace. In addition, he urged global coordination to counter terrorism effectively.
The Knesset building was illuminated in India’s national colours. Notably, this marked the first address by an Indian Prime Minister there. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Modi warmly. He added that the India–Israel partnership serves as a strategic force multiplier.

Trade Talks and Economic Vision
Turning to economic ties, Modi highlighted progress on the proposed Free Trade Agreement. He said the pact will unlock vast untapped trade potential. Although bilateral trade has grown steadily, more scope remains. For this reason, both sides continue negotiations.
India ranks among the fastest-growing major economies. Similarly, Israel leads in innovation and advanced technology. As a result, Modi described the partnership as natural and future-focused. He also stressed stronger investment flows and infrastructure cooperation.
Defence Cooperation and Shared Values
On the strategic front, Modi underlined the importance of defence collaboration. He said trusted partners must act together in uncertain times. Additionally, he praised the Jewish community’s long presence in India.
In conclusion, Modi said the partnership strengthens not only national interests but also global stability. Later, the Knesset honoured him with the Speaker’s Medal. The award recognised his role in deepening India–Israel ties.
