During a joint operation called Operation Mahadev, security forces killed three terrorists, including Suleman Shah, the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack. The operation took place on Monday in the rugged Lidwas area near Dara, close to Dachigam National Park in Srinagar. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out the mission after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of foreign terrorists in the region.

The encounter began around 11 a.m. in the dense forests between the Zabarwan and Mahadev ridges, which is how the operation got its name. The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed that three terrorists had been neutralized in a fierce firefight and that additional reinforcements, along with aerial surveillance, were deployed to support the ground forces.

While sources have identified one of the deceased terrorists as Suleman Shah, police officials emphasized that the operation is still ongoing. They refrained from providing detailed information until the mission is fully complete. A police spokesperson said the exchange of fire continues in the higher reaches and that they would release more information when the situation is under control.
