Union Minister Chirag Paswan announced on Sunday that he will contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, expressing his commitment to fulfilling the dreams of his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan, and working for a “better future” for the state. Speaking at a rally in Saran district near his Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency, Paswan declared his dedication to advancing Bihar’s development with the slogan “Bihar first, Bihari first.” He emphasized his resolve to work tirelessly for the people of Bihar, promising to build a system that truly benefits its citizens.

Paswan also voiced support for the introduction of a domicile policy for government jobs in Bihar, highlighting that it is a long-standing demand of the state’s youth. He criticized opposition parties, particularly the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, for previously withdrawing the policy after coming to power and accused them of misleading the public. While the current Nitish Kumar-led NDA government has ruled out the domicile policy, Paswan stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare of Bihar’s youth. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, meanwhile, has pledged full implementation of the policy if his coalition wins the elections.
Addressing concerns over law and order in Bihar, Paswan condemned the recent murder of businessman Gopal Khema in Patna, pointing to a worrying rise in crime and the collapse of governance. He urged the state government to take strict action against perpetrators to prevent such incidents from recurring. Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party, part of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre alongside the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (United), is expected to maintain its alliance in the upcoming elections, although Paswan has yet to confirm this officially.
