Viral visuals trigger backlash
Videos of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif inaugurating a pizza outlet in Sialkot went viral on social media. The store carried Pizza Hut branding, which initially drew little attention. However, users soon questioned its authenticity. As the clips spread online, criticism intensified. Many users mocked the minister for endorsing a private outlet without verification. The incident quickly turned into a political embarrassment.
Pizza Hut issues clarification
Soon after the visuals circulated, Pizza Hut Pakistan released an official statement. The company confirmed that the Sialkot Cantonment outlet was unauthorised. It clearly stated that the store had no link with Pizza Hut Pakistan or Yum! Brands. The company also said the outlet did not follow official recipes, quality checks, or food safety rules. Moreover, Pizza Hut reported the matter to authorities and sought immediate action.
Official outlets limited in Pakistan
Pizza Hut further clarified its official presence in Pakistan. It currently operates only 16 authorised outlets nationwide. Of these, 14 are in Lahore and two are in Islamabad. This disclosure raised serious questions. Critics asked how a senior minister could inaugurate an unverified brand. Many argued that basic checks could have avoided the controversy. Meanwhile, Khawaja Asif has not issued any response.

Social media reactions pour in
Social media users reacted sharply to the incident. Several questioned the minister’s awareness. Others accused him of wasting public resources. Some users shared personal experiences, claiming the outlet failed to meet Pizza Hut standards. Although Pizza Hut did not comment on the inauguration itself, it shared a list of authorised outlets online. This move further reinforced its disassociation from the Sialkot store.
The episode has renewed debate over accountability and brand misuse. It also highlights the risks public figures face when endorsing private ventures without due diligence.
