A female student at the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student inside the boys’ hostel on campus. She reported the incident to the Haridevpur Police Station on Friday evening, leading to the registration of a case and the subsequent arrest of the accused. According to her statement, she was invited to the hostel for a counseling session, during which she consumed a drink she believes was spiked, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon waking, she discovered that she had been assaulted. The accused reportedly threatened her against reporting the incident. The investigation is currently ongoing.

This incident follows a recent case at a law college in Kolkata, where a 24-year-old first-year student was gang-raped on June 25 by a former student along with two senior students on college premises. The case sparked widespread outrage and calls for a central agency investigation. So far, four individuals, including the prime accused Monojit Mishra, two senior students, and a security guard, have been arrested. The victim alleged that the assault occurred inside the security guard’s room between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm. The Calcutta High Court has directed the Kolkata Police to submit an updated investigation report within four weeks.

Both incidents have intensified concerns about campus safety and the measures institutions must take to protect students. Authorities continue to investigate and provide updates as the cases progress.
