U19 World Cup: Pakistan’s Qualification Match After India Fold for 252
Bulawayo: The qualification equation in Super Six Group 2 has reached its decisive moment. Pakistan kept their semifinal hopes alive by bowling India out for 252 in 49.4 overs at the Queens Sports Club. However, the job remains incomplete. To knock India out and book a U19 World Cup semifinal spot, Pakistan must chase the target at a rapid pace. Net run rate, not just victory, will decide who joins Australia, Afghanistan and England in the last four.
What Pakistan Need to Do to Reach the Semifinals
Pakistan’s task is clear but demanding. To overhaul the target of 253, they must complete the chase within 33.3 overs. Doing so would lift their net run rate above India’s and secure qualification. However, Pakistan can stretch the chase slightly longer only under a narrow condition. If they reach 252 by 34.3 overs, they must hit a six on the next ball to win and finish on 258. Any win beyond 34.4 overs will not be enough. Therefore, Pakistan’s batters need both speed and composure.

India’s Scenario: Simple, Yet Risky
For India, the equation remains straightforward. A win in the final Super Six match guarantees semifinal qualification. However, a loss opens the door for Pakistan. Since India currently hold a superior net run rate, they depend on Pakistan failing to meet the required chase time. Earlier, the ICC had already indicated that Pakistan would need a fast chase regardless of the target. For instance, a chase of 251 would have required completion within 33.2 overs. Hence, India’s hopes now rest on slowing Pakistan down.
India’s Batting Collapse Sets the Stage
India’s batting failed to fully capitalise after Pakistan opted to bowl first. The five-time champions lost early momentum after slipping from 47 without loss to 47 for 3. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ayush Mhatre and Aaron George departed cheaply. Although Vedant Trivedi top-scored with 68, India struggled to maintain partnerships. Later, Kanishk Chouhan, RS Ambrish and Khilan Patel added crucial runs to push the total past 250. For Pakistan, Abdul Subhan led the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 33, while Mohammad Sayyam chipped in with two wickets.
