HONG KONG SAR – Media Out Reach Newswire – 19 June 2025 – Hong Kong has risen two places to rank as the world’s third most competitive economy, according to the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2025 (WCY 2025) released on June 17 by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), a Swiss-based institution. This marks the second consecutive year that Hong Kong has advanced two spots, reaching its highest position since 2019.

The 2025 edition of the WCY assessed 69 economies worldwide, with Hong Kong making significant progress across all four key areas of competitiveness: Government Efficiency (ranked 2nd), Business Efficiency (2nd), Economic Performance (6th), and Infrastructure (7th). IMD attributed this performance to Hong Kong’s broad-based efforts in enhancing its global competitiveness and attracting private sector investment.
Chief Executive John Lee welcomed the results, stating they reflect the effectiveness of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s current policy direction. He noted that the improvements show tangible outcomes from various initiatives. Hong Kong has now maintained a top-10 position in the global competitiveness rankings for more than 20 consecutive years, dating back to the WCY 2003.
