PM Modi to Inaugurate Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat sleeper train later this month. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the train will offer modern overnight travel at fares much lower than flights. Operations are expected around January 18, with the exact date to be confirmed soon. The launch of the Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat train marks a significant milestone in India’s railway modernization. Passengers across Assam and West Bengal will now enjoy faster, safer, and more comfortable overnight travel.
Affordable Fares on Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat
Vaishnaw highlighted that the Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat fares are designed for middle-class travelers. 3-AC tickets will cost ₹2,300, 2-AC ₹3,000, and 1-AC ₹3,600, all including meals. By comparison, flights between Guwahati and Kolkata cost ₹6,000–8,000. The per-kilometre fares are ₹3.8 for 1-AC, ₹3.1 for 2-AC, and ₹2.4 for 3-AC. The Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat offers almost half the cost of flying while providing modern amenities and a secure journey.

Modern Amenities and Safety Features
The Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat train has 16 coaches with a total of 823 berths and a design speed of 180 kmph, though it will operate at 120–130 kmph. Coaches include 11 3-AC, four 2-AC, and one 1-AC. Passengers benefit from ergonomic berths, enhanced cushioning, automatic doors, advanced suspension, and the Kavach safety system. Disinfectant technology kills 99.9% of germs, ensuring hygienic and safe travel on the Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat train.
Regional Cuisine and Fleet Expansion
Trains departing Guwahati will serve Assamese cuisine, while Kolkata departures feature Bengali meals. Railways plan to expand the Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat fleet, with eight more trains launching in six months and 12 by year-end. This service provides passengers across Assam and West Bengal with fast, affordable, and comfortable travel, combining convenience with regional flavors. The Guwahati Kolkata Vande Bharat train is set to redefine long-distance rail travel between the two cities.
