Patna: Authorities in Bihar have issued an alert for several districts as the water level of the Ganga continues to rise, increasing the risk of flood-like conditions. The warning comes along with a forecast of heavy rainfall in the coming days. Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to assess the readiness of the Disaster Management Department (DMD).

According to an official statement, all teams under the DMD have been instructed to remain on high alert due to the rising water levels in the Ganga, as well as expected heavy rain in the catchment areas of Nepal-based rivers like the Gandak and Kosi. Additionally, significant rainfall is predicted in several parts of Bihar, including regions around the Sone river.

Officials have been directed to ensure that any signs of flooding are immediately communicated to residents through loudspeakers. In case water begins to enter residential areas, prompt action must be taken to evacuate people to safer locations. The department has also been asked to stay prepared to set up relief camps and community kitchens wherever needed. The state is on alert, and all necessary measures are being taken to minimize risks and ensure public safety during this period of rising water levels and potential flooding.
