Exclusive: Apple demands suppliers shift to robots for iPhones, Macs and Watches

Share

Apple is reportedly pushing its suppliers to adopt robotics in manufacturing, covering iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Watches. According to a DigiTimes report, the shift began in 2025 as part of Apple’s strategy to cut reliance on human labor, stabilize quality, and reduce long-term costs. Unlike earlier practices, suppliers must now handle automation upgrades themselves, raising upfront costs and causing temporary disruptions. Apple believes robotics will not only standardize production across global factories but also support its 2030 carbon neutrality goals while reducing risks linked to labor shortages and geopolitical challenges.

Apple’s Q1 GDP growth (India retail) mirrors global expansion.

7.8% YoY growth reported in April–June quarter for India’s economy.

Apple aims for 100% carbon neutrality by 2030.

  • “Apple wants suppliers to handle automation independently,” DigiTimes report.
  • “Robotics will reduce risks tied to labor shortages,”industry sources.
