Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Canada on Tuesday to participate in the G7 Summit 2025, being held in Kananaskis. This visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to Canada in a decade and comes as part of his ongoing four-day foreign tour, which began with a stop in Cyprus and will conclude in Croatia. PM Modi was invited to the summit by Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney, a gesture that signals potential diplomatic progress after a tense period in India-Canada relations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi will engage in discussions with leaders from the G7 nations, outreach countries, and heads of international organizations on key global challenges. Topics include energy security, technology cooperation, and the AI-energy nexus, with a particular focus on quantum technology and digital innovation. The summit offers a crucial platform for India to showcase its leadership in emerging technologies and sustainability on the world stage.
On the sidelines, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with G7 leaders, including discussions on global security, recent regional escalations like the Pahalgam terrorist attack, and strengthening strategic partnerships. The G7 group includes France, the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union. The summit is not only pivotal for global policymaking but could also mark a turning point in rebuilding India-Canada diplomatic ties, especially following Modi’s congratulatory message to Carney after his recent election victory.
