Ekta Kapoor Not Linked to ALTT, Says Balaji After OTT Ban.

After the Indian government ordered a ban on 24 OTT platforms for allegedly streaming explicit content, one of the platforms mentioned was ALTT (formerly ALTBalaji). In response to media speculation, Balaji Telefilms issued a clear statement on July 26, distancing producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor from the platform.

Balaji Telefilms clarified that it is a professionally managed media company listed on the BSE and NSE, and that ALTT is now entirely operated by them. This comes after the official merger of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. with Balaji Telefilms, which was completed on June 20, 2025.

The statement addressed reports claiming that ALTT had been taken down by authorities and was still connected to the Kapoors. Balaji strongly denied this, stating that both Ekta and Shobha Kapoor stepped down from all roles in the company back in June 2021 and have had no involvement with ALTT since then.

They also urged media houses to avoid spreading misinformation and to report accurately. The clarification follows the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s recent directive asking internet providers to block 24 OTT platforms accused of distributing vulgar or sexually explicit content.
