New Delhi: Dense fog covered Delhi on Monday morning and cut visibility across major routes. The smog slowed traffic and caused major disruptions at the IGI Airport. More than 150 flights faced delays, and several departures took longer to clear. The city’s air quality also stayed in the ‘very poor’ category, adding to public discomfort.
The IMD issued fresh warnings for dense to very dense fog in eastern Uttar Pradesh till December 23. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh may also see heavy fog between December 24 and 28. Delhi will continue to record cold mornings, with temperatures near 9°C and a daytime high of around 21°C.

Rain and snowfall will increase in the western Himalayas over the next few days. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will receive light to moderate showers or snow. The IMD also expects thunderstorms, lightning, and 30–40 kmph winds in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh today. Cold to severe cold conditions may spread across parts of Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and north Karnataka.
Several northeastern and central states will wake up to dense fog, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. With winter strengthening quickly, officials urge travellers to plan carefully, follow weather updates, and stay alert on low-visibility roads.
