Eyewitness Alert Ignored After Midnight Accident

A tragic accident in Delhi’s Janakpuri area claimed the life of bank employee Kamal Dhyani after he fell into a 15-foot-deep construction pit late Thursday night. The pit had been dug for a sewer pipeline rehabilitation project under the Delhi Jal Board. According to police, an eyewitness named Vipin Singh saw the motorcycle plunge into the ditch shortly after midnight. He immediately informed a security guard, who then alerted a site worker named Yogesh. However, despite this warning, no rescue effort followed. As a result, valuable time was lost, which later proved fatal.

Worker Informed Contractor, But No Emergency Call Made

Further investigation revealed that Yogesh contacted sub-contractor Rajesh Kumar Prajapati at around 12:22 am. He informed him about the fallen motorcycle and the presence of a person inside the pit. Soon after, Prajapati reached the spot with his colleagues. Nevertheless, he failed to inform the police or call emergency services. Instead, he allegedly left without taking action. Consequently, authorities remained unaware of the incident until nearly eight hours later. Police officials confirmed that mobile records and surveillance data supported this sequence of events.

Family’s Search and Delayed Discovery

Meanwhile, Kamal Dhyani’s family began searching for him when he did not return home. They visited several hospitals but found no accident record. Later, police used mobile location data to trace his last position. Together with family members, officers searched the Janakpuri area for hours. Eventually, they located the construction site where the accident occurred. Although the family alleged delay in police response, officials denied negligence. They stated that standard procedures were followed during the initial missing person inquiry.

Arrest, FIR, and Action Against Officials

Following the investigation, police arrested sub-contractor Rajesh Kumar Prajapati for negligence. They also launched a search for site worker Yogesh. Furthermore, authorities registered an FIR under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide. In addition, officials suspended three Delhi Jal Board engineers linked to the project. Police are now examining CCTV footage and awaiting the post-mortem report. Meanwhile, senior officers have assured strict action against all responsible parties to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
