Chirag Paswan Defends Bihar SIR, Says It’s Happened Before as INDIA Bloc Alleges Voter Removal.

The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has sparked a major political row, with the INDIA bloc accusing the government of trying to remove large numbers of legitimate voters. They claim the process could lead to the deletion of thousands possibly lakhs of names from the voter list.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan defended the move, saying the process isn’t new and has been carried out four times before in the same manner. Speaking to ANI, he emphasized that the revision is being done fairly and added, “No injustice will be done to any citizen, but if someone is an infiltrator, they won’t be allowed to misuse the right to vote.”

Despite Paswan’s assurances, tensions continue to rise. Opposition leaders like Rabri Devi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi protested inside Parliament, accusing the government of using the SIR to suppress voters. The matter led to repeated disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, causing adjournments for the fourth straight day of the Monsoon Session. Outside Parliament, criticism also grew louder. Shatrughan Sinha questioned the motive behind the revision, comparing it to alleged voter manipulation in Maharashtra. Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra went further, accusing the Election Commission of acting like an extension of the BJP—something she said has never happened before in India’s history.
