A major tragedy unfolded in Maharashtra as a bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River near Indori village in Pune district, leaving at least two people dead and several injured. According to officials, the iron bridge gave way around 3:30 PM local time on Sunday, causing many pedestrians to fall into the river. A large-scale rescue operation is underway, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed to assist in locating missing individuals and clearing the debris.

Eyewitnesses of the Pune bridge collapse reported chaos as 20 to 25 people were suddenly swept away by the river after the structure gave way. Raghuveer Shelar, an eyewitness, told Reuters, “The bridge suddenly collapsed. Some rescue workers saved a few tourists, but many are feared trapped under the debris.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident, confirming that relief and rescue work has been “immediately accelerated.”
