PM Modi indirectly slammed Trump tariffs, saying India’s economy grew 7.8% despite global “economic selfishness.” He urged trust in India’s future growth.

US President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods to push his “Make America Great Again” agenda. In response, PM Narendra Modi, speaking at the Semicon India 2025 event in Delhi on Tuesday, indirectly hit back at the move. He highlighted that India’s economy grew 7.8% in April–June, its highest in five quarters, despite global challenges caused by “economic selfishness.” Modi emphasized that the world trusts India and is ready to collaborate on semiconductors. India has called the US tariffs “unjustified,” even as Modi projected confidence in India’s economic strength and resilience.
