Fatal Collision Shocks Nandyal District

A deadly road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district claimed three lives early Thursday. The incident occurred around 2 am at Shirivellametta village in Shirivella mandal. A private bus collided head-on with a container lorry and soon caught fire. As a result, panic gripped passengers on board. Police said the crash also left several others injured, prompting immediate rescue efforts by local authorities.

Tyre Burst Triggered Loss of Control

According to police officials, the bus suffered a sudden tyre burst while travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad with 36 passengers. Consequently, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus then jumped the road divider and rammed into a container lorry coming from the opposite direction. Because of the severe impact, a massive fire broke out within minutes. Soon after, flames spread rapidly to both vehicles, leaving little time for escape.

Bystander’s Quick Action Saves Lives

As the fire intensified, passengers struggled to exit the bus. Both the main door and the emergency exit failed to open. Meanwhile, a DCM vehicle driver passing through the area noticed the blaze. Without delay, he stopped his vehicle and broke the bus windows. As a result, several passengers managed to jump out and escape. Police said his timely intervention saved many lives. However, despite rescue efforts, the bus driver, the lorry driver, and the lorry cleaner remained trapped inside and died in the fire.

Injured Taken to Hospital, Traffic Normalised

Following the rescue, authorities rushed more than 10 injured passengers to the Nandyal Government General Hospital. While some suffered burn injuries, others sustained fractures and bruises after jumping from the bus. Doctors later confirmed that all injured passengers were in stable condition. Meanwhile, the fire reduced both vehicles to ashes and destroyed passengers’ luggage and belongings. Due to the accident, traffic on the route remained disrupted for several hours. Eventually, police teams cleared the debris and restored normal traffic movement. Officials have now launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
