Anand Mahindra recently shared ideas on how India can turn the challenge of rising US tariffs into an opportunity. With President Trump increasing tariffs on Indian imports to 50%, Mahindra urged India to focus on key sectors like investment and tourism. He emphasized the need for a streamlined single-window clearance system to simplify investment approvals and called for states to align with a national platform to attract global capital through speed and predictability.

Mahindra also highlighted tourism’s potential for foreign exchange and jobs, suggesting faster visa processing, improved tourist facilities, and dedicated tourism corridors with strong security and hygiene. He stressed supporting MSMEs, boosting infrastructure, expanding manufacturing incentives, and rationalizing import duties to enhance competitiveness.

Drawing a parallel to the 1991 forex crisis that led to economic reforms, Mahindra wondered if today’s tariff tensions could also bring positive change. He acknowledged countries prioritize their own interests but encouraged India to focus on strengthening itself amid global challenges.
