Aamir Khan recently broke his silence on why he lost the iconic role in Yash Chopra’s 1993 blockbuster Darr, which ultimately went to Shah Rukh Khan. Contrary to the long-standing belief that Aamir had rejected the film, the actor clarified that he was actually removed from the project. “I didn’t say no to Darr. I said yes, but I was fired because I requested a joint narration,” Aamir revealed in an interview, shedding light on the real reason behind his exit from the cult classic.
Explaining his side, Aamir Khan said that his demand for a joint narration wasn’t unreasonable but rooted in his collaborative approach to filmmaking. “I believe when two lead actors are involved, both should hear the narration together so we can work as a team,” Aamir stated. However, veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra disagreed with the idea, which led to Khan being ousted from the project. “Yash ji did not want to do that, so he fired me,” he added candidly

.
Aamir Khan called the request a matter of personal principle and said he follows the same approach in all his projects. “If there are multiple actors in a film, I believe everyone should be present during the narration. That’s how teams are built,” he explained. His exit paved the way for Shah Rukh Khan to step in, a move that turned out to be a defining moment in SRK’s career.
Released in 1993, Darr became a massive hit and solidified Shah Rukh Khan’s anti-hero image. The psychological thriller, co-starring Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol, is remembered for SRK’s chilling portrayal and his iconic dialogue, “I love you, K-k-k-Kiran.” On the work front, Aamir Khan is now preparing for his big-screen comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, which is set to release in theatres soon.
