Gunfire Erupts in Patna’s High-Security Area, Tejashwi Yadav Blames Government

A man identified as Rahul was shot at by two unidentified bike-borne assailants in Patna’s high-security Polo Road area, though he escaped unharmed. The area houses the official residences of key state leaders, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anu Kumari said the police recovered a spent cartridge at the scene and have registered a case. The shooting, which occurred just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bihar, has sparked major political controversy.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the NDA-led Bihar government of failing to maintain law and order, alleging that criminals were roaming freely even in the most protected parts of the state. He tweeted that shots were fired outside his residence and blamed the government for emboldening criminals. “If even the most secure zone is unsafe and the culprits go untraced, Nitish Kumar should resign,” Yadav said, adding that the incident reflects poorly on the state’s governance. He also accused the media of downplaying the event due to the Prime Minister’s impending visit.

In response, BJP leader Ajay Alok defended the state government and targeted the RJD’s past tenure. He accused Yadav of “feeling the heat” from a lawless environment allegedly created during his party’s 15-year rule. “Back in those days, criminals used to walk into Lalu Yadav’s residence,” Alok said. He assured that police are investigating the shooting seriously and the culprits will be apprehended. “Be thankful governance is better now. Under Tejashwi’s rule, bullets might have been fired inside the house,” he added, intensifying the political blame game.
