During a 35-minute phone conversation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly told U.S. President Donald Trump that there was no third-party involvement in the ceasefire talks between India and Pakistan. This directly countered Trump’s repeated claims of U.S. mediation. According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Modi clearly stated that throughout Operation Sindoor, there were no discussions at any level regarding an India-U.S. trade deal or any mediation by the U.S. in ceasefire efforts. Modi emphasized that India has never accepted, does not accept, and will never accept third-party mediation, reaffirming a unanimous political consensus on the matter.

The phone call took place just ahead of President Trump’s scheduled lunch meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, on Wednesday. The White House itinerary confirmed this meeting, which comes at a critical time following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The situation escalated after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, prompting India to conduct precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched attacks on Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10, which India countered with strong responses. Modi made it clear to Trump that the dialogue to end military actions was conducted directly between Indian and Pakistani officials, without any external involvement. He reiterated that the India-Pakistan ceasefire was strictly a bilateral matter, with no role played by the United States or any other third party.
