The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has traveled to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as part of their ongoing probe into the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. Authorities are now examining whether a financial motive may have played a role in the crime. Raghuvanshi was killed while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, allegedly by three hired assassins — Vishal, Anand, and Akash — who were reportedly sent by his wife’s boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha. The latter, believed to be the mastermind, has already been arrested.

According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the SIT is interrogating several individuals in Indore to uncover whether anyone might have benefitted financially from Raja’s death. The team also raided a flat in which Sonam, Raja’s wife and co-accused, had stayed after fleeing Meghalaya, but the premises were found vacant. Syiem emphasized that while the love triangle has been acknowledged by the accused, investigators are not ruling out additional motives, including monetary gain.
The investigation further revealed that the hitmen used two machetes in the murder, one of which has been recovered. Police teams are combing the forested area below the gorge using metal detectors to locate the second weapon. Syiem clarified that Raja died due to severe blows inflicted by the weapons and not because of a fall into the gorge, as some earlier reports had speculated. He also confirmed that Raj Kushwaha, though the primary conspirator, never visited Meghalaya, likely to avoid drawing suspicion due to his ties with Sonam’s family business.
