Chitrangda Singh has addressed growing concerns about the portrayal and potential objectification of women in the upcoming comedy film Housefull 5. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actress offered a thoughtful perspective on the film’s tone and its place within the broader debate on gender representation in cinema. “Every film has its own genre, tone, and intent,” she explained, defending the light-hearted spirit of Housefull 5. “It’s important to understand that not all movies are meant to carry social commentary — some are made purely for entertainment.”

Referencing the varied careers of both herself and co-star Akshay Kumar, Chitrangda highlighted their past socially conscious projects. “Akshay has done Pad Man, Toilet, Kesari… I’ve played strong women in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Inkaar. But I’ve also performed in songs like Kafirana or Kundi, which are just part of the job,” she noted, adding that actors adapt their performances to suit different roles and genres. “It’s not always a reflection of who we are in real life.”
Chitrangda further stressed the need for audiences to balance sensitivity with humor when viewing entertainment. “Not everything can be politically, morally, or socially correct. Sometimes, films are just meant to entertain,” she said. Drawing global parallels, she cited satirical series like The Simpsons and Pink Panther as examples of content that, while controversial at times, are widely appreciated. “A sense of humor is essential — we can’t expect every film to carry the weight of a movement.”
