Iran Strikes Fully-Loaded Kuwaiti Oil Tanker Near Dubai, Oil Spill Feared

Iran attacked a fully-loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker near Dubai Port, escalating the West Asia conflict further. The strike damaged the vessel’s hull and sparked a fire onboard. Dubai authorities rushed emergency teams to the scene and quickly controlled the blaze. However, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) warned that the attack may cause an oil spill in nearby waters, raising fresh concerns over marine safety and energy supply disruptions in the Gulf region.

KPC Deploys Emergency Teams as Dubai Monitors Situation

KPC said it mobilised emergency response and firefighting teams immediately after the incident. The corporation stated that teams are working with UAE authorities to contain the situation. Dubai officials also confirmed that the fire is out, but safety teams continue to monitor the tanker. Authorities are checking for leakage and assessing the risk of fuel spreading into surrounding waters. The incident has increased pressure on Gulf ports as shipping threats grow in the region.

Tanker Al-Salmi Was Reportedly Bound for China

The attacked tanker, identified as Al-Salmi, reportedly travelled through the Strait of Hormuz in late February. This movement came during the same period when the conflict between Iran and US-Israel forces intensified. Ship tracking data showed the tanker reached Saudi Arabia’s Khafji port before sailing to Kuwait’s Mina Al Ahmadi for another cargo. After loading, it moved east towards the UAE and stayed near Dubai. Reports said the tanker was heading to Qingdao, China, though it reportedly changed cargo declarations during its journey.

Iran-US War Escalates, Oil Market Faces New Shockwaves

The tanker attack has added new tension to the ongoing Iran-US war. It has also increased global worries over oil supply routes. The Strait of Hormuz remains a major shipping corridor for global crude exports. Any disruption in this area can push fuel prices higher worldwide. US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of severe consequences and threatened Iran’s energy facilities, including Kharg Island. Reports also suggest Trump may stop military action even if the Strait remains partly closed. Analysts warn that repeated tanker attacks could expand the conflict and deepen the global energy crisis.
