Mega Airport Project Set to Boost NCR Connectivity

NOIDA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase 1 of the Noida International Airport today. The project marks a major milestone for Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region. Modi said the airport will improve connectivity and strengthen regional commerce. He also said it will reduce passenger load at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. In a post on X, the Prime Minister called the airport one of India’s most important greenfield infrastructure projects. He added that the airport will support passenger travel and cargo movement at a large scale.

11,742-Acre Airport Targets 225 Million Passenger Capacity

The Noida International Airport spans 11,742.45 acres, making it one of the largest aviation projects in India. Authorities plan to develop the airport in two stages. They aim to raise passenger handling capacity from 70 million to 225 million passengers per year. Stage 1 includes four phases. Phase 1 alone will handle 12 million passengers annually. Officials expect traffic to rise gradually as new terminals and runways come online. YEIDA officials said the airport will act as a growth engine for NCR. They also expect it to create jobs and attract new investments.

87-Acre Cargo Hub to Strengthen Logistics Sector

The airport includes an 87-acre Multi-Modal Cargo Hub. The hub will house cargo terminals, warehouses, and logistics facilities. Officials have reserved nearly 30 acres for domestic, international, and express courier terminals. NIAL said the cargo terminal will handle 255,000 metric tonnes per year in the first phase. The authority plans to expand this capacity to 1.8 million metric tonnes in later phases. Phase 1 has already received an investment of ₹800 crore. Officials expect total investment to touch ₹3,200 crore after full expansion. The airport will also host India’s first in-house Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. NIAL has allocated 40 acres for MRO operations. It has partnered with SNV Aviation Pvt Ltd (Akasa Air) for the project.

Net-Zero Design and Industrial Expansion Around Airport

Project planners designed the airport as a net-zero concept facility with strong sustainability goals. The airport includes rainwater harvesting ponds and plans a 3 MLD sewage treatment plant. Authorities have also developed an 82.94-acre solar farm to support clean energy use. YEIDA officials said the airport has already triggered industrial development. Several projects have started near the airport, including MSME Park, Apparel Park, Toy Park, Data Centre Park, and ODOP Handicraft Park. The region has also attracted the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor facility, with an investment of over ₹3,700 crore. Authorities have also proposed a Medical Devices Park and an International Film City.
