Political Row Over Film Content Intensifies
A spokesperson of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has called for a ban on films like Dhurandhar: The Revenge, alleging that they portray Muslims negatively. Party leader Waris Pathan criticized such films and claimed they spread misinformation and hatred. His remarks have added to the growing controversy around the film, which has already drawn mixed reactions from audiences and critics.
Strong Remarks and Demand for Ban
Speaking in Mumbai, Waris Pathan said he avoids “propaganda films” that spread false narratives. He accused filmmakers of using sensitive issues to earn money and gain attention. He further stated that such movies often show Muslims as villains, which he believes harms social harmony. Pathan urged the government to take action and ban such content. He also suggested that filmmakers should focus on entertainment or factual storytelling instead of creating division.

Film Faces Criticism and Support
The film, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, has sparked debate across the film industry and online platforms. Several public figures, including Prakash Raj and Ramya Spandana, have criticized the film’s content. At the same time, some celebrities and audiences have praised it for its storytelling and performances. The film continues to generate strong opinions on both sides.
Box Office Success Amid Controversy
Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has performed well at the box office. The film has already collected over ₹234 crore in India. It released in theatres on March 19 and expanded to multiple language versions soon after. However, it faced restrictions in some Gulf countries, similar to its predecessor. The ongoing debate highlights the larger issue of creative freedom versus social responsibility in cinema, as discussions around the film continue to grow.
