Iran Expands Strike Range Beyond Middle East
The conflict between United States and Iran entered its 22nd day with a significant escalation in military activity. Iran reportedly launched two intermediate-range ballistic missiles toward the US-UK military base in Diego Garcia, located nearly 4,000 km away. According to reports citing US officials, neither missile hit the target. One failed mid-flight, while a US warship used an SM-3 interceptor against the second, though officials have not confirmed a successful interception. This development signals Iran’s attempt to extend its strike capabilities beyond the Middle East.
Hormuz Talks and Regional Tensions Rise
Amid rising tensions, Iran has opened diplomatic discussions with Japan regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran may allow Japanese-linked vessels to pass through the critical waterway. At the same time, Iran launched strikes on Israel and energy infrastructure across Gulf Arab states. Officials warned that Iran retains the ability to produce advanced missiles and could target public spaces globally if tensions continue to rise.

Israel Strikes Tehran as Leaders Exchange Warnings
Israel intensified its response with heavy airstrikes on Tehran during the Nowruz celebrations. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei described the conflict as one that goes beyond conventional warfare. In his Eid and Nowruz message, he praised the country’s resistance and expressed condolences to families of those killed. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel may pause attacks on a key Iranian gas field following a request from Donald Trump, even as tensions remain high.
US Military Build-Up and Rising Human Cost
The United States has increased its military presence in the region by deploying additional warships and around 2,500 marines. The Pentagon has also requested $200 billion in funding for the ongoing conflict. President Donald Trump said he does not support a ceasefire at this stage, while suggesting that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen under the right conditions. The war has already caused significant casualties, with over 1,300 deaths reported in Iran and widespread displacement across the region. As the conflict intensifies, global concerns over stability, energy security, and humanitarian impact continue to grow.
