Gulf Crisis Escalates as Missiles, Drones Target Region
A sharp escalation is unfolding across the Gulf after Iran warned of “uncontrollable consequences” following strikes on its South Pars gas field. In response, the United Arab Emirates activated air defence systems to intercept incoming missiles and drones. At the same time, residents in Dubai received emergency alerts warning of potential missile threats during Eid prayers. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi remained on high alert as authorities strengthened security across key installations.
Qatar LNG Hit, Energy Markets Face Shock
The crisis has already disrupted global energy supplies. Qatar confirmed missile strikes on its Ras Laffan LNG facility. As a result, exports have dropped by around 17%. Officials estimate annual losses could reach $20 billion, while repairs may take up to five years. Consequently, global LNG markets are under pressure, raising concerns about supply shortages and price spikes. This development comes at a time when energy markets are already strained due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Regional Security Intensifies Across Gulf Nations
Security responses have intensified across the region. Authorities in Bahrain reported intercepting 139 ballistic missiles and 238 drones since the conflict began. Similarly, Kuwait confirmed it shot down Iranian drones. In addition, the UAE’s State Security Department dismantled a network allegedly linked to Hezbollah and Iran. Officials said the group used a fake commercial front to influence the economy and destabilize financial systems.
Global Response and Rising Military Support
Meanwhile, global powers are stepping in. The United States has approved $16.46 billion in military sales to the UAE and Kuwait. Furthermore, the UAE condemned Iran’s attacks on the Habshan gas facility and Bab field, calling them a “dangerous escalation.” These strikes followed earlier Israeli attacks on Iran’s South Pars field, which triggered Tehran’s warning. As tensions rise, the region remains on edge, with authorities urging vigilance and preparing for further developments.
