Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail to End at Sarai Kale Khan

The Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor, announced in the Union Budget 2026–27, will terminate at Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, officials confirmed. Already Delhi’s first major multimodal transport hub, Sarai Kale Khan will host the HSR station. To ensure seamless integration, authorities will amend the Influence Zone Plan (IZP) and improve connectivity. Consequently, passengers can expect smoother movement between transport modes.

Multimodal Connectivity for Seamless Travel

Additionally, the new station will link directly with Delhi Metro, Nizamuddin Railway Station, and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Moreover, dedicated foot overbridges (FOBs) and wider roads near the bus stand are planned. Authorities will also redevelop traffic circulation and connect the station to Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT and the Delhi Metro Pink Line. In the long term, the Barapullah flyover will extend to reduce congestion. These measures will create one of India’s most advanced transit hubs.

NHSRCL Updates Detailed Project Report

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is updating the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor. This update will reflect ground realities and ensure smooth integration of the HSR station. Furthermore, the Delhi-Varanasi corridor is one of three high-speed rail lines starting from Delhi. Therefore, the new station will become a crucial node for both domestic and long-distance travel.

Boost to Economy and Travel Efficiency

Consequently, the corridor will drastically cut travel time between Delhi and Varanasi. Officials say it will boost tourism, trade, and regional development. Besides, the transit-oriented planning at Sarai Kale Khan will reduce traffic pressure, enhance urban mobility, and improve passenger convenience. By linking multiple transport modes, the project not only strengthens India’s high-speed rail network but also sets the stage for faster, safer travel nationwide.
