Government Confirms Release of Medical Documents
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced on Friday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s detailed medical reports have been handed over to his family. He shared the update on social media after growing demands from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The party had approached the Supreme Court seeking access to Khan’s health records. Meanwhile, Khan remains lodged at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. He has been in custody since August 2023 in multiple legal cases. Recently, concerns over his health intensified, leading to fresh political debate.
Hospital Visit and Health Status Update
Earlier this year, authorities shifted Imran Khan from jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. Doctors treated him for an eye-related problem. According to Minister Tarar, the procedure was successful. He stated that Khan is currently in good health. Moreover, hospital officials confirmed that he remained stable after treatment. The Prime Minister’s Office directed PIMS to prepare a detailed medical report. Subsequently, jail authorities delivered the document to Khan’s family, as per official instructions.
Family Raises Questions Over Transparency
However, Khan’s sister Aleema Khan questioned the government’s claim. She said that authorities submitted only brief medical notes to the anti-terrorism court. According to her, the Supreme Court chief justice had promised full disclosure of the reports. She accused jail officials of ignoring court directions. Furthermore, she urged Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to take action against the authorities. PTI leaders also expressed dissatisfaction. They demanded access for Khan’s personal doctors and family members. As a result, the issue has gained legal and political significance.
Political Reactions and Ongoing Legal Battle
Meanwhile, opposition leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He requested personal intervention in the matter. PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also submitted a memorandum seeking medical access. Authorities maintain that Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, receive treatment under Pakistan Prison Rules 1978. Despite this assurance, political tensions remain high. Analysts believe the controversy reflects wider concerns about transparency and prisoner rights. As legal proceedings continue, Imran Khan’s health remains a key issue in Pakistan’s political landscape.
