PM Modi Addresses Rajya Sabha Amid Sloganeering

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday amid loud protests from Opposition parties. At the start, he took a jibe at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and asked him to “sit and make slogans.” He referred to Kharge’s age while making the remark. Soon after, several Opposition MPs walked out of the House. Reacting to the exit, PM Modi said, “thak gaye, chale gaye.” He continued his speech despite the disruptions. He stressed the need for discipline and meaningful debate in Parliament.

PM Modi Attacks Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Traitor’ Comment

During his address, PM Modi strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu. Gandhi had allegedly called Bittu a “traitor.” The Prime Minister questioned why Congress never used similar language for leaders who left the party earlier. He said the party targeted Bittu because he is Sikh. PM Modi called it a sign of hostility towards the Sikh community. He also highlighted Bittu’s family sacrifices for the nation. He said no one should face abuse for changing political ideology.

Focus on Economy, Viksit Bharat, and Global Influence

PM Modi highlighted India’s economic progress during his speech. He said the country is recording high growth and low inflation. He added that India is moving towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. The Prime Minister also spoke about the vision of “Viksit Bharat.” He said India has become a strong voice of the Global South. Referring to recent trade agreements, he mentioned deals with the European Union and the United States. He described the EU pact as the “mother of all deals.”

Lok Sabha Disruptions and Budget Session Timeline

The Lok Sabha witnessed repeated disruptions on Thursday. Members adjourned the House several times due to protests. The trouble began over former Army chief MM Naravane’s unpublished memoir on the 2020 India-China standoff. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of breaking House rules and harming army morale. Congress denied the charge and accused the government of avoiding questions on national security. Earlier, women MPs protested near the Prime Minister’s seat. This led to further adjournments. The Budget Session will end on April 2. It includes 30 sittings over 65 days. The Houses will break from February 13 to March 9.
