Explosion Rocks Shahr-e-Naw Hotel
A powerful explosion shook central Kabul on Monday, hitting a hotel in the Shahr-e-Naw district. The blast killed and injured multiple people, according to the Taliban interior ministry. Shahr-e-Naw is usually considered a safe area and is frequented by foreign nationals. The explosion caused significant damage to the hotel and nearby streets. Emergency teams rushed to evacuate victims and secure the area.
Taliban Confirms Casualties
Taliban spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani said, “Preliminary reports indicate a number of deaths and injuries.” He added that authorities would release more details later. Another official, Khalid Zadran, confirmed the blast at the Shahr-e-Naw hotel. Local media footage showed smoke and dust filling the streets, while people fled in panic.

Attackers Remain Unknown
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet. However, the Islamic State (IS) local affiliate has carried out similar attacks in Kabul before. Analysts warn that repeated attacks show the security situation in Afghanistan remains fragile. The Taliban promised safety when they took over in 2021, but such incidents continue to disrupt the city.
Authorities Investigate and Strengthen Security
Officials are investigating the blast and working to prevent further attacks. Meanwhile, residents, visitors, and foreign nationals remain on high alert. Authorities continue evacuating the injured and securing nearby areas. More updates on casualties and investigation results are expected as the situation develops.
