New Delhi, Jan 18, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off five new Amrit Bharat Express trains, further expanding India’s non-AC long-distance rail network. Two trains were launched from Assam’s Nagaon district, while three services were flagged off from Singur in West Bengal. As a result, rail connectivity between the Northeast, Eastern, Northern and Southern regions has received a major push. Moreover, the new services aim to provide affordable and reliable travel to passengers across multiple states.
Modern Coaches with Passenger-Friendly Amenities
The Amrit Bharat Express trains operate on modern LHB coaches with advanced push-pull technology. As a result, the system allows higher speeds and smoother acceleration. Additionally, it improves operational efficiency and passenger safety. Although the trains are non-AC, they offer several upgraded features. These include ergonomically designed berths, modular toilets, LED lighting, CCTV cameras and mobile charging points. Furthermore, air-spring suspension bogies enhance ride stability and reduce vibrations. Meanwhile, an integrated passenger information system provides real-time travel updates.

Two New Amrit Bharat Trains from Assam
During his visit to Kaliabor in Assam’s Nagaon district, PM Modi launched two new Amrit Bharat services. First, the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak Express will link Assam with northern India. Along the way, it will pass through districts in West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Major stops include Kamrup, Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kanpur Nagar and Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Express will strengthen Northeast-central India connectivity. Notably, it will cover districts in Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Key stations include Dimapur, Jorhat, Alipurduar, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya and Lucknow.
Three Amrit Bharat Trains Flagged Off from West Bengal
In Singur, West Bengal, the Prime Minister flagged off three additional Amrit Bharat trains. Firstly, the Howrah–Anand Vihar Terminal service will connect Bengal with Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Secondly, the Sealdah–Banaras Express will improve travel across West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Finally, the long-distance Santragachi–Tambaram Express will link West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Therefore, cities such as Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Chennai will benefit. Overall, Indian Railways said these launches will boost inter-state connectivity, affordable travel and regional economic growth.
