Supreme Court Blocks Delhi HC’s Relief
The Supreme Court on Monday stopped the Delhi High Court’s bail order for former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Therefore, the bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant stressed the need for caution due to the “peculiar facts” of the case. Consequently, the court paused the High Court’s December 23 order and confirmed that Sengar would remain in prison. This decision immediately reassured the survivor, who had repeatedly raised concerns about his release.
2. Delhi HC Bail Order Triggered Public Anger
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had paused Sengar’s life sentence and granted him conditional bail. It argued that he had already spent seven years and five months in jail. However, the order quickly triggered public anger across Delhi. Many women’s groups launched protests and demanded that the bail be withdrawn. Moreover, the survivor joined the demonstrations and stated that the order weakened her fight for justice. Sengar received a life sentence in 2019 for raping a minor and also faced a fine of ₹25 lakh. Additionally, his conviction followed intense public pressure and a detailed investigation.

3. Survivor Raises Serious Allegations
A day before the Supreme Court’s intervention, the survivor addressed a protest organised by the All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA). She said she trusted the Supreme Court to protect justice. However, she also alleged that Sengar had bribed officials, including a CBI officer and even a Delhi High Court judge. Furthermore, she said her family had suffered severe hardship since the bail order. Her claims added a new layer of concern and pushed the case back into the national spotlight.
4. Next Steps as Supreme Court Resumes Control
With the stay in place, the Supreme Court will now examine the case more closely. Therefore, the order keeps Sengar in custody and restores the earlier legal position. Many activists and legal experts welcomed the move, saying it strengthens public trust. Meanwhile, the appeal will continue in the coming weeks, and the court is expected to take a firm view. Finally, the Unnao case remains under strong public and judicial attention as the legal process moves forward.
