Delhi Police New Year Crackdown Begins Ahead of Festivities

The Delhi Police New Year crackdown under Operation Aaghat 3.0 has intensified across the capital as the city prepares for large New Year celebrations. Police arrested 285 people under the Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act. Moreover, the force aims to stop criminal activity during the festive week, when public movement increases sharply in markets, nightlife zones and crowded public spaces.

Major Arrests and Seizures During the Crackdown

During the Delhi Police New Year crackdown, officers detained 504 people under preventive measures and arrested 116 individuals marked as “bad characters.” They seized 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, 27 knives, 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor, 6.01 kg of ganja, ₹2,30,990 in cash, 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler.
Additionally, DCP South East Hemant Tiwari said his teams monitored hotspots to stop drug peddlers, bootleggers and repeat offenders. He noted that criminal activities often rise before major holidays; therefore, the operation must remain continuous and intense.

Enhanced Policing Measures Under the New Year Crackdown

Police rounded up 1,306 individuals through night patrols, vehicle checks and targeted raids. Meanwhile, Tiwari stated that the Delhi Police New Year crackdown strengthens community policing and improves ground-level response. Officers blocked high-risk routes, tracked suspicious vehicles and increased their presence in crowded markets and nightlife hubs. Consequently, police believe these steps will deter organised criminal groups active during the New Year period.

Operation Aaghat’s Expansion and Ongoing Crackdown

Earlier phases of Operation Aaghat also produced major results. In September, officers arrested 70 people and recovered firearms, narcotics and stolen property. Later, Aaghat 2.0 in October added around 500 apprehensions, showing a sustained push against habitual offenders.
Finally, with Aaghat 3.0 delivering the highest arrests and recoveries so far, the Delhi Police New Year crackdown reaffirms the force’s commitment to maintaining public safety. Officials said this security efforts will continue through the holiday week to ensure peaceful celebrations across the capital, Zoom Chronicle News reported.
