Priyanka Das Found Dead at Her Rented House

Keonjhar has been shaken by the tragic death of Priyanka Das, a 25-year-old guest lecturer at Keonjhar Government Women’s College. Additionally, she was found dead inside her rented house near Mining Road under suspicious circumstances. Moreover, visible injury marks on her neck immediately raised doubts of strangulation. As a result, the incident has sparked fresh concerns regarding the safety of young women living alone in the district.

Police Register Murder Case and Launch Investigation

Priyanka’s uncle, Hemendra Prasad Das, lodged a complaint at Keonjhar Town Police Station. Following this, police registered a murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Soon after, investigators discovered that Priyanka was in a live-in relationship with 45-year-old Rudra Narayan Mishra, treasurer of the Keonjhar District Truck Owners’ Association. However, Mishra claimed she fainted while handing him the room keys. Her family strongly refuted his statement and pointed to the injury marks, which therefore pushed police to intensify their investigation.

Accused Arrested While Trying to Escape

Police traced Mishra near Biju Patnaik Square. Eventually, they arrested him while he allegedly tried to flee in a car. According to early findings, he had pressured Priyanka to marry him, but she refused due to their age difference. Furthermore, tension between them had grown in recent weeks. The couple lived together near the Odisha School of Mining Engineering campus, though Priyanka’s family opposed the relationship.

Public Outrage Grows as Police Deepen Probe

Meanwhile, police have sent Priyanka’s body for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. Officers continue interrogating Mishra to uncover a clear timeline of events. Consequently, the murder has ignited strong public anger and renewed discussions on women’s safety, relationship abuse, and independent living challenges. In conclusion, authorities promise a swift investigation, while the community demands justice for Priyanka Das.
